Services used from Colobridge:
Background
ASTOR is a network of four concrete plants in the Kyiv region with a total capacity of 8,000 m³ per day. The company produces all types of ready-mixed concrete and construction mortars, offering an assortment of over 6,000 formulas. It has its own R&D center that develops innovative products to tackle construction challenges of any complexity and advanced concreting technologies, allowing for faster, more efficient construction while saving costs. ASTOR Tech Service Support provides extraordinary on-site service to ensure high-quality concrete structures and reduce project expenses. With a network of four plants and an automated logistics management system, ASTOR delivers orders on time, regardless of location, adhering to a 60-minute delivery standard. Each concrete structure built with ASTOR concrete receives a certificate of technical and environmental safety, confirming the reliability and safety of the building from piles and foundation to floor slabs.
Problem
In 2014, ASTOR decided to relocate from the eastern part of Ukraine to the Kyiv region. This relocation presented certain challenges: the company needed to quickly return to its usual workflow and restart all related business processes associated with IT at the new location. At that time, the client’s IT infrastructure was in-house: the company operated its own data center on the premises, which it maintained with its own resources.
Tasks
ASTOR aimed to preserve their data and transfer it to the new site as quickly as possible to resume 24/7 operations. However, there were other tasks that needed to be addressed by the client. Therefore, in addition to the speed of project implementation, other requirements were also placed on the service provider.
Data placement in a location that ensures stable and secure operation of the IT infrastructure.
Flexibility of migration. The data needed to be transferred not only quickly but also at a convenient time for the business, primarily during nighttime hours.
Support in Ukrainian. It was essential to simplify communication as much as possible and expedite problem resolution, which is challenging with a language barrier.
Wide range of products within a single platform. The company recognized its potential and anticipated production expansion, as well as the need for new IT solutions. Ideally, these solutions should be available from a single provider.
Access to a high-tech platform. Enterprise-class hardware and software licenses from leading vendors guaranteed stable operation immediately after migration and opened up opportunities for future innovations.
Speed of incident response. Prompt problem resolution and choice of communication channels with technical support were crucial for ensuring business continuity. Concrete is a perishable product, and its production and delivery processes directly depend on the performance of IT services. Delays in delivery to end clients could result in significant financial losses.
Implementation
The search for a suitable service provider to host the IT infrastructure led ASTOR to Colobridge. Colobridge offered a high-performance platform tailored to the client’s needs, built on two certified fault-tolerant German data centers (Tier III/ Tier III+) managed by Europe’s top data center operators. The Colobridge team possessed the relevant IT expertise required by the client and operated 24/7, 365 days a year, enabling them to complete the migration in the shortest possible time. At that time, the company’s actual response time to client requests was no more than 15 minutes, with requests being sent through multiple communication channels and responses provided in the preferred language.
In the first stage of the work, the client’s IT infrastructure was analyzed, and a solution that met their needs was selected. This solution was a cloud with the rental of the appropriate Microsoft licenses, allowing the client to shift from capital expenditures to operational expenses and reduce initial investment costs.
The data was transferred during nighttime over the course of three days. Thanks to the prompt execution of tasks by Colobridge, the client was able to avoid critical downtime and the loss of valuable business information.
We were urgently searching for a service provider and didn’t have the time to conduct a detailed comparison of different cloud providers. The main criterion was the ability to transfer our data as quickly as possible and work with us around the clock. Colobridge agreed and delivered! Within the first weeks of collaboration, we were convinced that our choice was the right one: the team approached the task responsibly and performed efficiently where speed and professionalism were required.
As the business evolved and new IT services emerged, the list of products used by ASTOR changed. In 2017, a migration to a new cloud (MS IaaS) was carried out with the participation of both the client’s technical specialists and Colobridge. The client’s team managed the process and adjusted the timelines, while the provider’s team performed all necessary tasks. Initially, both sites were integrated into one network to ensure uninterrupted business processes.
Later, ASTOR began additionally renting MS SQL licenses, connecting a firewall (FWaaS), and using a platform for automatic backup creation and storage (Backup as a Service – BaaS). The provider’s technical specialists also handle the administration of the client’s operating systems.
Results
Today, ASTOR is a modern production company that actively implements innovations and, with the help of reliably functioning IT services, ensures the continuous process of producing and delivering concrete to clients. The uninterrupted IT infrastructure, quick response support in an understandable language, and a wide range of services (including the aaS model) are among the factors that allow ASTOR to maintain its leadership position in the market and provide high-quality services. The company has maximized the security of its data, avoided business process interruptions, and now rents and pays only for the computing power and associated services it needs.
Our cooperation with Colobridge has lasted for 10 years. During this time, not only have we developed, but the cloud service provider has also evolved. This has allowed us to receive up-to-date services and solutions that meet changing requirements. I can recommend Colobridge to my partners and friends because I am confident that with this German provider, their IT infrastructure will be secure and professionally supported.
