Background
Idealist Coffee Co is a Ukrainian coffee shop chain and full-cycle coffee company that selects, roasts, and packages aromatic coffee from the finest plantations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Operating since 2019, the company has consistently moved forward, opening new coffee shops and expanding its list of partners who sell Idealist Coffee Co’s ground and whole-bean coffee. By 2024, the number of partners surpassed 300. To support the operation of its own online store and ensure continuous product supply to its partners, the company requires a reliable and consistently functioning IT infrastructure.
Problem
Some of Idealist Coffee Co’s IT services were hosted by a European data center operator. However, as the business grew, it became clear that the provider’s reliability and technical support did not meet the company’s expectations. Additionally, with the coffee chain and online store showing significant growth, it was necessary to transform the IT infrastructure. The data center operator was unable to deliver the required pace of modernization and flexibility, offering standard equipment configurations instead of tailored solutions to meet the company’s needs. As a result, Idealist Coffee Co sought an alternative service provider with a strong reputation and high ratings.

Tasks
In 2023, Idealist Coffee Co decided to begin the transformation by finding a reliable cloud storage solution for backing up SQL servers. The company also considered migrating all IT services to the new provider but did not rush the process. The current provider, based in Europe, still met several of the client’s criteria: data was securely stored and protected under German jurisdiction, and 24/7 support was available. However, there were issues, such as the technical support team’s lack of expertise, which delayed the resolution of critical issues. The low level of product customization prevented the company from developing an ideal solution tailored to the coffee chain’s needs, which could have had negative long-term consequences, slowing business expansion. Additionally, the absence of technical staff who could communicate in Ukrainian posed a language barrier, hindering fast and effective communication.
Implementation
The search for a reliable cloud services provider coincided with a promotion from Colobridge offering advantageous conditions for data protection: free storage of up to 2 TB of backups for 6 months for all new clients. At the initiative of the IT director, the backup creation and storage for Idealist Coffee Co were transitioned to Colobridge, which is also physically located in Germany. After a successful trial period, in the spring of 2024, the client began using the BaaS service on a paid basis and also expressed interest in other Colobridge products.
After discussions with specialists from the corporate cloud provider, it was decided to migrate the accounting system database and remote desktop services for employees to the new platform. These services are now hosted on dedicated hardware customized to meet the client’s requirements. Subsequently, the client requested a trial of the IaaS service, and after the trial period, moved the online store for natural coffee to the cloud.

Results
Idealist Coffee Co now uses a hybrid solution combining servers and a public cloud, integrated into a unified infrastructure on the Colobridge platform. They separately pay for the backup creation and storage service to safeguard against potential data accessibility issues. In the future, the client plans to explore other Colobridge products to further adapt their IT infrastructure to the constantly changing market conditions.
